Watch Out for Free Trials of Acai Berry Products

Attorney General, Chris Koster, recently sent out an alert to all consumers regarding the hundreds of companies sending out ads for free trials of Acai Berry products; after receiving reports of more than 100 complaints recently on these internet businesses “deceptive practices”.

The most popular of these deceptive practice initiatives has been this: you see an offer on the internet for a 14-day free trial of the magical Acai Berry product (formula, diet, pill, etc). After having agreed to the trial, you receive the product; however, if you do not notify the company of your intention to cancel, you will continue to receive more installments of the product at a monthly charge. While this is a common advertiser ploy, this part is not: you, as the consumer, once you have decided to cancel, cannot reach the company who offered the trial-thereby incurring monthly charge after charge.

If you suspect you have been subject to one of these Acai Berry scams and live in Missouri, please contact Koster’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-8222 or visit his website at ago.mo.gov.
