How To Set Your Weight Loss Mindset

With thousands of weight loss exercises, diets, fad diets available at our disposal, losing weight has never been so easy. Enrolling in a good fitness regime, eating proper diet, consuming fewer calories can get you the weight you that always wanted. Despite the fact, it is easier said than done as more and more people are struggling to reduce weight and find it hard to achieve.

Losing weight needs motivation more than any other thing. No doubt exercise and diet are an important aspect of weight loss, however one has to constantly persevere through the rigorous exercise regimes and follow a strict diet in order to lose weight; which needs a lot of will power and preparation on a person’s behalf.

Following are some tips to make a proper plan and set your mind towards weight loss

1. Set A Realistic Goal

Most of the weight loss resolutions break because of a simple reason- they are too unrealistic. It can be said that nothing is impossible and one can achieve anything they put their minds on, however one needs full dedication to achieve the same. If you have all the sweet time in the world only for weight loss, you can lose any amount of weight you desire; however with all the responsibilities, work, family etc. time is something one lack. So instead use the available time at your disposal and chart out a realistic goal according to it.

2. Get A Buddy

Quite often you will come across situations where you would like to skip a morning walk or quit an exercise regime; this is the time when you will need a buddy who can motivate you and give you company. Also you can motivate him or her when she is lazing around. This way you will benefit from each other.

3. Vary Your Exercise And Diet

Sticking to the same regime everyday might eventually become boring and hence it is best to regularly rotate your exercise and diet plans. You can go for a game of soccer instead of the usual aerobics or even a dance class. Variety will also target different parts of the body which were initially unused. The same is true about diet too.

4. Positive Attitude

A lot has been said about positive attitude. Not only does it help you to stay on track even if you are not getting any results, it also helps you to better accept your body. Paste some of your favorite quotations somewhere you can easily see every day. It will give you the much needed motivation when you are feeling low or want to do something which is quite hard.

5. Chart Your Progress

Keeping a track of your progress can work wonders in your weight loss endeavors. A constant progress is what you must aim for rather than fluctuations. Tracking your progress can provide you the motivation if you are going in the right direction as well as ring the alarm if you are straying off it. Buy a good measuring tape for the purpose and note down the data in a book. Also get your weight measured regularly and keep a note. You can alsochange your exercise and diet regime according to the changes you are noticing.

By following these methods combined with the perfect exercise and diet regime suitable for your body, you can easily lose those extra kilos and fulfill your new year resolution of getting the perfect weight.

Tips For Staying Fit This Winter

Tips For Staying Fit This Winter

The winter season brings in bulky clothing and heavy coats. Because we tend to cover up more in colder weather, it is easy to neglect staying in shape. Don’t let this year’s cold snap leave you lagging behind feeling tired, bloated and weak. Your exercise routine may need a few adjustments with tips for staying fit this winter.

1. Warming Up the Muscles
Before you step outside for a morning run in the snow, be sure you have warmed up your muscles and properly stretched. Tight muscles exposed to the cold will cramp and the weather conditions can tear a ligament in your feet and knees. Ten minutes of stretching your calves and flexing your feet gets your body ready to take a pounding on the pavement with a brisk walk or jog in the cold.

2. Keep Your Head Covered
The temperature of the head regulates the rest of the body. It is important to wear a knit cap when running or walking in cold weather to keep you warm before and after your have reached your target heart rate.

3. Muscle Cramps
Your muscles may feel strained and tight when exercising in colder weather. Remedies such as liniment, tiger balm, and soaking your feet in Epsom Salts provide immediate relief to enable you to maintain your winter routines.

4. Avoid Chapped Hands
Winter winds can cause chapped hands to the point of severe cracking of the skin. Protect your hands with wool gloves when you run to prevent winds from drying out your skin. If your hands are already sore, apply a skin softening cream and cover with rubber gloves.

5. Drink Plenty Of Fluids
Your body needs water just as much in the winter as it does in the summer. Be sure you keep your system hydrated with eight glasses of water per day. Your water intake need not be ice cold from the fridge. Try your water bottles at room temperature or heat a cup of hot water with a dash of lemon.

6. Stay Connected
Be sure to take your mobile phone in case of an emergency. Roads and sidewalks can be slick in winter and you want to stay connected should an accident arise.

7. Eating Light
Calorie burning is accelerated when you eat light before your run. Try to avoid heavy meals that have little water content. Hamburgers, breads and pastas should be avoided before you work out. Instead, fuel up on a protein shake, piece of fresh fruit or a cup of steamed vegetables.

8. Adjust Your Routine Times
Longer days in the summer equals more hours of light at the end of your day. As winter sets in, the daylight hours become shorter and can reduce your quality time to run. Jogging on city streets may be unsafe after dark, so you might have to shift your exercise time from late afternoon to early morning.

9. Skid Resistant Foot Wear
To avoid a nasty slip and fall, be sure you have plenty of tread on your trainers. Your shoes may fit your foot comfortably, however the tread on the sole must be in mint condition to keep your feet firmly anchored to the ground.

10. Take Your Vitamins
A daily dose of vitamins and supplements will keep your body strong and help fight off the winter flu bugs. Vitamin C tablets plus a few glasses of orange juice should keep your immune system ready for anything and help you remain on track this winter workout season.

Seniors, How to Stay Balanced!?

Unless we have regularly practiced some form of exercise in our life or have inherited exceptionally good genes, we will feel weaker in the legs as we get older. That is part of growing older and as the Chinese say, ‘old age starts in the legs’.
Helping to prolong one’s life with exercise is the solution, as well as also looking after oneself in other ways,
such as maintain good nutrition, fresh air, good, nourishing relationships etc.

How come old age starts in the legs?
Considering that our main support is the ground, the earth, we learn that being connected to it is vital in fact.

We are constantly and without interruption being ‘fed’ energy from the earth – as well as from the heavens – thus we learn in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Again according to TCM, some of our organs, like the stomach and the spleen, have the quality of the earth in them and are classified as being of the earth element, just as some others, like the lungs, have the quality of the air and are classified as being of the air element, while the heart is of the fire element. Our body comes from the earth and the ancient Chinese were quick to see, through being close to nature, its relationship to the different elements of nature.

So, yes, it is very important to keep our connection to the earth, if only by developing the leg muscles, which, being intimately connected with every other area of muscle in the body, play an crucial part in keeping the whole body strong and well-balanced.

Many of us have taken for granted the fact that the earth supports us, but in older age are surprised or accept it as a ‘fait accompli’ if we lose our balance, as if it were a natural part of growing old.

So we end up spending time in wheelchairs or having to hold on to a walking frame to get about.

A few years ago I approached several retirement homes to offer an exercise program for seniors, and I was shocked to see this state of affairs.

Most of the people there were hardly able to lift their arms without any help! (Of course I am not including some of us who’ve been unfortunate, having had accidents and needing to resort to extra outside help).

I honestly think it’s time for everyone over 50 who hasn’t already started some form of exercise to begin and keep up with it as a regular practice.

Although maybe we might have to try several exercise programs for seniors until we find one that is:

·        easy
·        where we feel we make progress
·        that makes us feel good, stronger, energised and relaxed at the end of a session

And may I suggest easy Tai Chi?!

I’d also like to mention that exercise helps us to be inspired and creative, but that will be the topic of another article!

To provide a means to generate well-being from within, Francoise Bonhoure, a qualified Seniors Exercise teacher (for Over and Under 50’s!), has created a comprehensive beginner exercise program.

The Advantages Of A 7 Day Detox Diet You Can’t Disregard

There are many benefits to a 7 day detox diet than simply losing weight.  While it will help you reach your goal of rapid weight loss, you will also have a healthier body and a solid foundation for a healthier lifestyle.  You are not likely to find any other diets offering all three benefits at the same time.

The first and most noteworthy benefit of a 7 day detox miracle diet is being able to lose a pound per day, and possibly more, while you are on the diet.  Each day, you will have different food categories.  You may be surprised at the variety and great taste offered in each category.  These food groups are specifically chosen to burn fat effectively, while increasing your body’s energy levels.  From fresh fruits and vegetables to protein, nutrition and weight loss can go hand in hand.  All you need to do to succeed is consume only the products listed for each day’s category throughout the week.

The next benefit is detoxifying your entire body.  Drinking plenty of water, and consuming high-fiber foods, will have two benefits.  It will cleanse harmful toxins and other impurities from your body, while helping your digestive system work more efficiently.  You will not only begin to look better when you begin shedding those pounds, you also will feel better.

7 day detox reviews extend to another, equally important, benefit.  As the foods in each category are good for you, the diet is a positive step toward healthier eating habits.  Instead of bland food that leaves you feeling deprived, or experiencing food cravings, it provides complete satisfaction.  When you see how satisfying and delicious diet foods can be, you will have no problem choosing nutritious foods after you have succeeded at losing unwanted weight.  It is an excellent start to a lifetime of weight control and good health.

A Short List of Fat-Burning Foods to Eat

Thermogenic foods or fat burning foods can be a very big help for people who want to lose extra weight. In order to lose 1000 calories per day, there are many things which must be done, among them are to exercise for at least an hour and to watch what you eat and even limit it in some cases. So, if you are on a diet in hopes of losing weight just in time for the summer season, here is a list of fat burning foods. Make sure that you have these foods on your menu. With them you will be hitting two birds with one stone because you will be able to get your fill and lose fat at the same time. These foods offer the best of both worlds.

  • Milk. Milk has calcium which acts as metabolic trigger. The University of Tennessee conducted a study which found that people who consumed 1,300mg of calcium per day lost twice as much weight compared to those who did not.
  • Whole Grain Cereal. This is a fabulous source of fiber and complex carbohydrates. These substances help a person’s metabolism by keeping insulin levels in the blood low. Insulin spikes make your body think that it is time to store fat in your body.
  • Oats. This is another rich source of fiber. This can also help pump up your metabolism. Oatmeal is broken down slowly in the stomach and it does not cause the insulin level in the body to spike. Although oatmeal is typically eaten during breakfast, it can be eaten anytime of the day.
  • Cayenne Chiles. These are often ground into cayenne paper. According to a study, eating just one spicy meal a day makes your metabolism rate rise by up to 25%.
  • Green Tea. This contains a chemical called EGCG which causes your nervous system and you brain to run faster and burn more calories.
